Vireo Media has crossed the 1,000 follower mark on Twitter! In honor of this benchmark, I wanted to share my tips and tricks for gaining your first 1,000 Twitter Followers.
Fill out your profile completely
I follow a lot of accounts on Twitter, I like variety in my Twitter stream so I follow people from all different industries. I try not to follow spam accounts which means I adhere to these rules:
- I don’t follow accounts that haven’t filled out their bio – How am I supposed to know who you are?
- I don’t follow accounts without cover photos – Usually, it means they don’t tweet regularly
- I don’t follow accounts that are NSFW – Super awkward if someone’s nudes show while I’m browsing in the office
Always tag author accounts when you share an article
I share A LOT of articles on Twitter – usually around 10 per day! Nearly every article I share tags the original author. Whenever I tag a Twitter account, they get a notification showing that I shared their article. This gives me a chance to connect with them on Twitter!
Make it easy for people to find your Twitter account
Take a look at my website, I have a link to my Twitter account above my main menu, and in the sidebar. This makes it super easy to find me on Twitter.
Post Often
I post about 5 times a day. This sounds like a lot, but it’s easy to get lost in the noise on Twitter. If you’re new to Twitter, I recommend aiming for 3-5 Tweets per day and ramping it up once you start to see what your audience responds to.
Participate in Twitter Chats
I’ve learned a lot from joining Twitter chats. It’s a great way to connect with experts in your field and find other people in your niche.
Hashtags help people find you
How will people first find your account? I know most people have found me through hashtags! You’ll see scattered through my Tweets are lots of strategic hashtags; #SmallBiz, #SMM, #SocialMedia, #Marketing, etc. You’ll even see a few in my bio!
